Level 1: online training (schools and charities with income less than £200k)

Our modular online course looks in detail at the scope of special educational needs and disability (SEND) law.

Our Level 1 training is suitable for parents, carers and supporting family members, as well as professionals supporting and advising parents who wish to gain a greater knowledge of the law. 

This training course covers the following topics:

  1. Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities – the legal framework
  2. The duties on local authorities, schools, nurseries and post-16 institutions
  3. Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments
  4. EHC plans, personal budgets and direct payments
  5. Naming a school or further education institution in an EHC plan
  6. Changing an EHC plan
  7. Mediation and appealing to the SEND Tribunal
  8. Introduction to the Equality Act 2010 – disability discrimination in schools
  9. SEND Tribunal procedure
  10. Exclusion from school

Level 2: online training (schools and charities with income less than £200k)

This modular online course builds on the learning acquired in our Level 1 online training and face-to-face training to provide a more in-depth knowledge of certain areas of the law relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Our Level 2 training is suitable for parents, carers and supporting family members, as well as professionals supporting and advising parents who wish to build on their learning from our Level 1 course. 

This training course covers the following topics:

  2. The duty to specify
  3. Annual Review
  4. Home to School/College Transport
  5. Mediation for education, health or social care
  6. Health Care
  7. Children's social care
  8. Adult social care
  9. Early years framework
  10. Young people and mental capacity

Level 3: online training (schools and charities with income less than £200k)

Our Level 3 online training is an advanced level training course for those who have successfully completed Level 1 and Level 2.

This training is suitable for parents, carers and supporting family members, as well as professionals supporting and advising parents who wish to build on their learning from our Level 1 and Level 2 courses. It will enable you to take your understanding of the law relating to the education of children and young people with SEND even further, but with a particular emphasis on gaining knowledge regarding bringing different types of appeal to the SEND Tribunal.

  3. Tribunal appeals: Refusal to issue an EHC Plan

You will be enrolled on our suite of online training courses, and will need to complete each course in succession. On completion of each course, you will be issued with a certificate before moving on to the next level.
