This one day training provides an introduction to the law on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The content is particularly relevant for professionals advising or supporting families of children and young people with SEND.

This training covers:

  • The Children and Families Act 2014
  • The duties of local authorities and schools
  • Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments
  • EHC plans – including naming a school and changing a plan
  • An introduction to the Equality Act 2010
  • Exclusions

By the end of the training, attendees will have a sound understanding of the framework of SEND law and how children and young people with SEND should be supported. They should also be able to begin using that knowledge to identify how the law can be applied to support parents, carers and young people with SEND.

Duration: 5.5 hours (10.00 - 15.30, including breaks and Q&A)

Format: delivered live, virtually via Zoom

This training relates to the law as it applies in England.

This training is not suitable for parents and carers (please see our upcoming dates for parent/carer training here).
