Our Level 1 SEND law training provides an introduction to the law on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The content is particularly relevant for professionals advising or supporting families of children and young people with SEND, but may also be suitable for parent groups who have attended previous IPSEA training and wish to extend their knowledge. This training is available on a place by place basis, so individuals and teams are able to attend.

Delivered by a member of IPSEA's expert legal team, the training covers the following topics:

  • The Children and Families Act 2014
  • The duties of local authorities and schools
  • Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments
  • EHC plans – including naming a school and changing a plan
  • An introduction to the Equality Act 2010
  • Exclusions

By the end of the training, you will have a sound understanding of the framework of SEND law and how children and young people with SEND should be supported. You should also be able to begin using that knowledge to identify how the law can be applied to support parents, carers and young people with SEND.

The training day is also designed to complement our Level 1 online learning which covers the topics in further detail.

We are pleased to offer a discounted package if you’d like to combine IPSEA Level 1 online training and this face to face training day. This combined package offers the training day at £99 and the online training at £199 (usually retailing between £350 and £700 dependant on your organisation status). If you would like to take advantage of our discounted rate, please select the option in your booking form.
