Policy work Learn about our policy work Our national policy priorities Our national policy priorities Protecting children and young people's rights and entitlements We want to make sure that children and young people’s rights are not watered down in the Government’s SEND Review or overlooked in the SEND Change Programme. Implementing the existing SEND legal framework We want the existing SEND legal framework to be implemented in its entirety, with full compliance with the law in all local areas. Improving accountability and helping parents secure access to redress We continue to make the case for stronger accountability in the SEND system, including extending the remit of the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman to investigate support in schools for children with SEND. Improving SEN Support in schools We want there to be a statutory framework for SEN Support in schools for children who do not have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. Meeting the needs of children and young people with additional vulnerabilities We want the particular needs of children and young people who have SEND as well as additional vulnerabilities (including children in the care system, in the criminal justice system, asylum-seeking children or from travelling communities) to be understood and met.
