This one-day training explains the legal requirements for an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan, including the purpose of each of the sections of the plan, how to decide what should be included and what to look for when reviewing an EHC plan.

The content is suitable for professionals involved in developing and delivering EHC plans, including local authority staff and professionals who assist parents and carers in receipt of draft EHC plans or seeking amendments to their EHC plans.

Please note, this training is not suitable for parents and carers (please see our upcoming dates for parent/carer training here). 

Delivered by a member of IPSEA’s legal team, this training will cover the following topics and include practical exercises to reinforce learning:

  • What is an EHC plan?
  • What form must an EHC plan take?
  • What content must an EHC plan have?
  • Group exercises
    • Example EHC plans
    • EHC plan re-writing
  • Why does it matter?

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • Understand the law relating to the form of an EHC plan​
  • Understand the law relating to the content of an EHC plan​
  • Understand the key sections of an EHC plan – specifically those relating to special educational needs, special educational provision and outcomes​
  • Be able to secure consistency in EHC plans

This training relates to the law as it applies in England.
