Our training days provide an opportunity for attendees to explore key issues in special educational needs and disability (SEND) law in the context of their role and organisation.

We have developed standard package training days for local authorities, and we also deliver bespoke training for those who need us to focus on a particular issue or area of SEND law.

Standard package training days

We have four standard package training days tailored specifically for local authority staff to support your work with families of children with SEND.

  • SEND law for local authoritiesthis one day training provides an overview of the SEND legal framework, as well as other related areas of the law. By the end of the training, attendees will have a sound understanding of the framework of SEND law and the duties of local authorities, schools and colleges towards children and young people with SEND.

  • SEND decision making and the lawjointly developed with the Department for Education, this training day assists local authority decision-makers to interpret and apply the legal requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014 to key decision points.

  • Preparing a legally compliant EHC plan: for professionals involved in developing and delivering EHC plans, this training explains the legal requirements for an EHC plan, including the purpose of each of the sections, how to decide what should be included and what to look for when reviewing a plan

  • Decision making and appeals: getting it right from the beginning: designed specifically for staff in local authority SEND teams, this training will support participants to get decisions right from the beginning. We’ll explain each step of the appeals process, starting from lawful decision making and working through the Tribunal timeline in order to help participants reduce the need for an appeal and to ensure that if an appeal does occur, it’s conducted lawfully and efficiently.

If there is a specific issue or area of SEND law that our standard packages do not cover, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us to discuss.
