Tribunal Helpline Volunteer – Home based

Purpose To refer decisions made by the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SEND)

Main Tasks Working from home, you will provide:

  • Next-step advice and support to parents of children with SEN in appealing a decision to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal made by a Local Authority concerning their child’s needs.
  • Next-step advice and support to parents of disabled children to make a claim of disability discrimination to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal against their child’s school.
  • An initial assessment of the level of support a parent requires. If the parent is able to prepare their own case and represent themselves at the Tribunal hearing you would then continue to advise them through the process. If the parent is not able to represent themselves at the Tribunal hearing the case would then be referred for support from Tribunal Support volunteer.

Commitment We ask our tribunal helpline volunteers to cover one session each week for a three-month period.

During any one year we ask that you cover at least two three-month periods. The current helpline sessions are below – but we would like to add more:

  • Monday - 10am - 1pm
  • Tuesday 7pm – 9pm
  • Wednesday – 10am – 1pm
  • Thursday – 10am – 1pm
