Bradford to review unquantified statements

After IPSEA complained to the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families that MB Bradford appeared to have a policy of not specifying special educational provision in their Statements, Bradford has given the Secretary of State the following assurance:

“Education Bradford has agreed to review the wording on all Statements of SEN at the next annual review and to make any required amendments at that time. This will ensure that within twelve months the wording of all statements will have been reviewed with parents in school, particularly in relation to language used, specification, quantification and clarity.”

IPSEA is anxious to hear from any Bradford parent who would like help with arguing for quantification on provision in Part 3 of their child’s Statement at Annual Reviews; and from any parent who experiences resistance from the Authority when they request an amendment to their child’s Statement aimed at achieving greater quantification.

In addition, IPSEA has been informed that:

“The National Strategies Regional Adviser has agreed to carry out a random quality audit on recently issued and reviewed statements (in Bradford) after six months (i.e. February 2010) …They will arrange to talk to some parents as part of this random quality audit.”

IPSEA would be interested to hear from any parents who are approached by the National Strategies Regional Adviser for the purposes of this audit.
